Italian luxury builder confirms MC20 EV for 2025
To reassure some unofficial comments that gave Maserati as wanting to slow down the adoption of electric vehicles, the Italian luxury manufacturer Stellantis decided to put everything in a clean sheet. And even before listing a generous list of vehicles powered exclusively by batteries to be launched soon, the manufacturer committed to designing this new and extensive range of 100% electric models entirely in Italy, the country where they will also be produced, moving away from the solution of some German rivals who manufacture some vehicles in China, to take advantage of lower production costs.
Maserati is among those who believe that the future lies in electric vehicles which, using the right technology, are capable of providing exuberant power and a very interesting range, combined with reduced charging times. To a large extent, this technology that now makes it possible to design advanced electric cars was developed in conjunction with participation in the Formula E World Championship.
At the moment, Maserati is already selling the Grecale Folgore SUV and the GranTurismo Folgore four-seater coupé in Europe, but the range will be reinforced in a continuous and sustained manner, starting with the GranCabrio Folgore, the convertible version of the GranTurismo scheduled for before the end of the year. In 2025 it will be the turn of the MC20 Folgore, the exuberant coupé that is already on the market with a version equipped with a gasoline engine, providing 630 hp. No data is yet known about this two-seater electric super sports car, with the certainty that it will be considerably more powerful than its “brother” with a combustion engine.
To this range of four exclusively battery-powered models, which will materialize over the next 18 months, Maserati will also add an electric SUV in the E segment, with dimensions close to the Levante, which should be the first to appear on a specific platform for battery-powered models, sometime in 2027. This cycle of new electric models will end with the arrival of the electric Quattroporte, the top-of-the-range battery-powered saloon that will begin to be delivered to customers in 2028.
