Dakar trucks second stage: Van Kasteren beats Loprais and wins by just 6s

The second Dakar truck special had an old acquaintance at the front. Champion last year and leader after the first activities, Janus Van Kasteren finished the long stage from Al Henakiyah to Al Duwadimi in 4h36min12s.

The Dutchman, however, faced more difficulties than he usually does. After the 470 kilometers of race, he finished just six seconds ahead of rival Ales Loprais. With this, he increased his advantage in the overall category leadership.

Martin Macík ended the day in third place, followed by Pascal de Baar, Claudio Bellina, Michiel Becx, Jaroslav Valtr, Gert Huzinik, Michael Valtr and Josep Bernat completing the top ten of the day.

In the general classification, Van Kasteren remains ahead, with 9h31min37s in the accumulated time. Loprais appears in second place, with almost 13 minutes behind. Macík is third, closely followed by De Baar and Jaroslav Valtr.

This Monday (8), the Dakar will hold its third special stage in Saudi Arabia, leaving Al Duwadimi towards Al Salamiya, with a long 440 km of timed section and a further 293 km of travel.
