DAKAR 2024
Ricky Brabec wins the duel against Ross Branch...by the minimum
The Dakar in the motorcycle category, although it is more open than in the car category, also points to a two-way duel between Ricky Brabec (Honda) and Ross Branch (Hero). And today, the eighth stage (Ad Dawadimi-Haíl) they have starred in... although at the end a guest 'snuck in'.
News: victory of a non-Honda motorcycle...And the race has been won by the American... although barely thanks to a titanic final effort by the Botswanan. Kevin Benavides (KTM) was the winner of the day - the second stage that the Argentine achieved in this Dakar and the third of eight that Honda missed - but it was Brabec who was the winner of the day.
Not because of the time he achieved, just 42 seconds more than Branch (which became more than three at some point during the day), but because of the moral blow that it will be for Hero to have succumbed to a Brabec that opened the track. .but that, even so, has surpassed him.
Now the Honda leader has a cushion of 43 seconds, somewhat greater than the pyrrhic second with which he started today at the 279 kilometers that finally made up the stage (it was scheduled for 438, but for safety reasons the organization neutralized 179). But insignificant for tomorrow's stage.

Transition stage...Today, with such a short distance, was not decisive. No one suffered any major setback and all the favorites finished less than five minutes behind, so the general outlook does not change substantially.
Third is still the Chilean Nacho Cornejo, who shaved 2:27 off the leader Brabec and is now 4:23 behind his teammate in HRC... and the third Honda, that of Adrien Van Beveren, second today, is also holding on to the fight and at 11:58 overall. It will be more difficult for the KTM/Husqvarna, who are more than 20 minutes behind the leader (20:31 Kevin Benavides, 29:10 Price, 38:43 Sanders and 39:35 Luciano Benavides).
Tomorrow, in the ninth stage of Dakar 2024 (Ha'il - Al-Ula, 427 kilometers), there will be a little more terrain to make a difference.
