TUNNING
The special versions of the GMC Sierra are mostly oriented towards off-road performance, and in the line of the large American pick-up, twin sister of the Chevrolet Silverado, there is no truly 'monstrous' version.
However, what the manufacturer does not offer can be found thanks to the initiative of specialized manufacturers such as Hennessey, which filled this void by equipping the powerful Goliath 650 with a relevant injection of power.
This is not an absolute novelty, in the sense that in the past there have been decidedly 'monstrous' models built on the basis of giants from the GM Group, from 6x6 to 'monsters' with more than 700 hp.
This is precisely due to the fact that enthusiasts of the Chevrolet and GMC brands have never had anything that rivals the Ford F-150 Raptor and Raptor R, and the RAM TRX, and in fact, they still don't, except through manufacturers like Hennessey.
Going into details, the Goliath 650 is a GMC Sierra 1500 with a 6.2-liter V8 engine to which a compressor and some other adaptations have been added. This treatment increases power by no less than 55%, going from 425 hp as standard, to a respectable 650 hp.
It is a 3.0-liter supercharger accompanied by a specific revision of the intake and exhaust systems, both high-flow, an intercooler, an additional crankcase cooling system and specific electronics, as well as new, more robust valve actuation connecting rods.
The transmission remains standard, a 10-speed automatic, as well as the connectable all-wheel drive. The prices are not at all ‘affordable’, as the engine alone costs almost 28,000 dollars. On top of that is the official three-year/36,000-mile (57,600 km) warranty.
For those who want to complete the job as it deserves, there is also an off-road package for another $22,950, with a steel front bumper with 'Goliath' inscription and additional lights, as well as a suspension upgrade that further increases the ground clearance also thanks to special 20-inch wheels, with 35-inch diameter all-terrain tires.
