ASTON MARTIN
The collaboration between Aston Martin and Zagato has lasted more than 50 years. In this half century, the British brand and the Italian bodybuilder have produced several very special unique pieces, including the Centennial Spyder Concept.
Created to celebrate Aston Martin's centenary in 2013, it is a one-off, or unique example, based on a DB9 Volante, a convertible equipped with a 6.0 V12 engine with 517 hp, which accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h. h in 4.6 seconds and reached a maximum speed of 295 km/h.
The Centennial Spyder Concept's styling is reminiscent of iconic Aston Martins from the 70s and 80s, such as the DBS, V8 Vantage and V8 Virage. The spear-shaped front end created by Zagato designers gave the car an even more original character and a more passionate personality, while maintaining an air of elegance.
At the rear, there are new lights and a specific 'tail', a far cry from the rear of the original DB9 Volante. The interior remained practically unchanged, although there were original additions such as stainless steel moldings and a green stripe, imitating the exterior color, in the center of the front and rear seats.
The roof was made of fabric and also had a green color matching the rest of the vehicle. For its part, the large light alloy wheels, more elegant than sporty, were formed by ten double spokes.
The DB9 Volante conversion work lasted a year, and the Centennial Spyder Concept was presented in 2013 in Kensington Gardens (United Kingdom). It then crossed the Atlantic Ocean to be displayed at the Pebble Peach Competition of Elegance.
Since then, the example has remained in California with its owner, whose identity remains anonymous to this day, but we know that in 2015 it was auctioned at an RM Sotheby’s event.
It is worth noting that in 2013 two other exclusive Aston Martins were presented, the Centennial Coupe Concept and the Centennial Shooting Brake Concept, based on the DBS and Virage, respectively. Just like the Centennial Spyder Concept, they were unique examples destined for the British brand's most devoted collectors.
