Bagnaia recovers the MotoGP status quo
The victory of Pecco Bagnaia, together with the fall of Jorge Martín when he was leading the Indonesian GP, places him again at the head of the general classification, in a MotoGP survival race and where Maverick Viñales has finished on the podium.
The MotoGP lead lasted 24 hours for Jorge Martín, who lost it in an unexpected fall at turn 11 when it seemed that he had everything in his favor. The man from Madrid had made a spectacular start and was leading the race with more than two seconds of advantage when he made that mistake halfway through the race and handed that first position in the classification on a plate to Pecco Bagnaia.
The Italian completed a memorable Sunday, starting from 13th position on the grid and achieving a balmy victory when he needed it most. Bagnaia showed in Indonesia why he is the MotoGP title champion.
There are five Grands Prix ahead, 185 points at stake, and Bagnaia leads the standings with 18 points over Martín and 63 over a heroic Marco Bezzecchi. Seeing his results this weekend, he has undoubtedly deserved all that suffering from that clavicle operated on seven days ago today.
The other proper name of the day was a Maverick Viñales. In his best weekend since he joined Aprilia, he was just three tenths away from his first victory with the Noale MotoGP, and stoically resisted the challenge of an inspired Fabio Quartararo in the final laps.
