FIAT

FIAT Centoventi - PANDA

New Fiat Panda 2024: the Italian automotive giant's bet to face Chinese electric cars

The fourth generation of the Panda model will be presented on June 11, 2024, it is expected to be one of the most important models within its range.

The new version of the Panda will have large dimensions, jumping from the urban segment A to the utility segment B, a category in which FIAT only has the SUV 500X, since the abandonment of the Punto model in 2018.

The 4th generation electric Panda will be like a twin brother of the Citroen C3 that will be launched on October 17th, both will share the Stellantis group's CMP/eCMP platform, however the structure and mechanical part will be completely different. The Panda will be inspired by the Centoventi prototype announced in 2019, which at that time paid homage to the original version of the Panda from the 80s.

The electric FIAT Panta will be available in several versions, the most economical of which will start at a price of less than 25 thousand euros, thus entering into direct competition with, for example, the Volkswagen ID.2, Nissan Micra and Renault R5, however the Panda will distance itself from these models by presenting a crossover style, which incorporates a raised suspension, roof bars, etc.

According to information from FIAT CEO Olivier François, the brand has arguments to develop a solution that puts Chinese electric models in difficulties, so it will focus on “less is more”, thus anticipating a lower cost than its Chinese rivals, even though the Panda is manufactured in Europe.

New FIAT Panda will be a minimalist and economical electric car...The 4th generation FIAT Panda will be an electric car equipped with an LFP (lithium-ferrophosphate) battery with 40 kWh of capacity that will be manufactured by SVOLT, the launch price will be around 22 and 23 thousand euros, a factor that will lead it to compete directly against the small electric Dacia Spring.

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares informed that: “We need LFP batteries and we will be able to equip electric cars with this system, as it offers a competitive position in terms of costs, something that will make electric cars accessible to the middle class”.

The top-of-the-range version of the FIAT Panda will use the mechanical package seen in the Opel Corsa Electric and Peugeot E-208, that is, a 156 HP (115 kW) engine and an NCM (nickel, cobalt, manganese) battery of 51 gross kWh which is equivalent to 48 useful kWh.

CATL will be the battery supplier for this top-of-the-range model, with a range of around 400 km (WLPT) and a price of 30 thousand euros.
