In recent weeks the Formula 1 news has been surrounded by the drama and legal actions initiated by Felipe Massa contesting the 2008 title. Pending a response from the International Automobile Federation (FIA) and Formula One Management (FOM) in their action, meanwhile, the Autodromo de Monza, stage of the 2023 Italian GP, dawned this past Thursday with a banner in support of the Brazilian's petition made by the Ferrari Club de Caprino Bergamasco, which reads: "Felipe Massa, world champion 2008"; in Portuguese, "Felipe Massa, world champion in 2008". The poster was strategically placed in front of the team's own pits.

Felipe Massa defended Ferrari from 2006 to 2013, he sent a letter to both entities earlier this month. His petition was motivated by statements made in March by former F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, who revealed that he had already been aware of "Singapuragate" in 2008, the same season as the incident.

-(The scandal) hurts and takes away from a situation where, "hey", you had a title in your hand. That title was ours. And it was taken away by manipulation. Undoubtedly it is something very serious for the sport, for justice, and for all the people who are part of the sport that we always think is something clean, and it was not - said Massa.

The issue was also addressed by the driver last weekend, when he competed in the Stock Car stage in Goiânia. The Brazilian responded to Lewis Hamilton, who argued during the F1 Dutch GP press conferences that he did not remember the 2008 title race.
