Tesla Model Y will serve the US police
The Tesla Model Y is the latest addition to the American manufacturer's lineup. It is a mid-size SUV based on the Tesla Model 3 that offers a little more interior space than this one. The simplest version has only one electric motor located on the rear axle. All-wheel drive versions mount an electric motor on each axle with up to 480 hp.
That's precisely why the Unplugged Performance team chose the electric SUV for their latest project. It is a vehicle developed for police work by the specialist's UPfit fleet division. Introduced at the Tesla Takeover event in San Luis Obispo, Calif., this past weekend, it will be serviced in South Pasadena, Calif.
A large number of changes were made to the Model Y to adapt it to the needs of the American police force, which committed itself to replacing its entire police fleet with electric vehicles. The modifications begin with a redesigned front part where the protagonist is a new steel protection bar, in addition to blue and red flashing lights. They are located just below the hood opening.
This Tesla Model Y also incorporates new LED lights on the front panels and a new set of wheels in glossy black. They are paved with all-terrain tires to increase the versatility of the electric SUV beyond the asphalt. The icing on the cake are the emergency lights on the roof, along with blue and red lights on the side skirts.
As for the interior, we can distinguish a range of systems intended for police functions. The center console has been completely reconverted to fit light controls and sirens, as well as the radio system. There is also no lack of a computer for data verification. Panels separate the cockpit from the rear, where the seats are now made of hard plastic.
