MAHINDRA

Mahindra Scorpio – the Australian Simpson desert in world record time

Mahindra’s Australian distributor, in connection with the market launch of the new Scorpio N, achieved a world record performance by crossing the Simpson desert in the fastest time with a production car.

Gene Corbett (Total Driver) and Ben Robinson (4WD Industries) were the leaders, completing the 385 km distance in 13 hours 21 minutes 5 seconds.

Guinness recognized the performance on March 16 as a world record. They left Birdsville at dawn and arrived at Alkaseltzer Bore in the evening, crossing a dried-up salt lake bed and conquering more than 1,100 sand dunes; the outside temperature reached 50°C.

The Australian market is so important to Mahindra that when developing the latest generation of Scorpio, prototypes were tested on the continent for 6 months, which also helped to achieve the world record.
