Alfa Romeo SZ: possible electrified coupé of the brand under development

There has been talk for years about a possible Alfa Romeo coupé, inspired by the Alfa Romeo GTV and also the iconic Alfa Romeo SZ, but the truth is that until now the brand had not confirmed its official plans in that regard… until now.

The head of design at Alfa Romeo, the Spaniard Alejandro Mesonero-Romanos, responsible for the design department at SEAT, assured the British at Autocar that they are working on the aforementioned GTV.

Furthermore, he spoke about the SZ as a source of inspiration for this model: "It wasn't a pretty car, we all know that, but there's a lot we can take from its independent and distinctive spirit when designing a coupe for the electric age".

“I loved its wedge shape, its square back and the way the tinted glass area protruded from its bulky body. It's a brutal design, but a very special and impactful one, and we need to emulate it if we can", concluded Mesonero-Romanos.

In any case, it seems that the latest generation electric vehicle platform will not make things easier for home designers, since, according to Mesonero-Romanos, these platforms impose even more restrictions than those existing in conventional models with combustion engines. , despite the contrary belief.

For the time being we do not know if this species of Giulia coupe will receive a classic denomination, such as GTV or Alfetta, or if it will have a completely new name, since the designer himself did not want to confirm anything about this aspect.
