Tacoma 2024 pickup is made with a turbo engine or even a self-charging hybrid drive
Recently, Toyota’s large-sized Tundra pickup, made especially for the North American market, was renewed, and now its sibling, the Tacoma, which was also developed in North America and is considered compact there, but normal-sized in our country, has also been introduced – the same TNGA-F chassis is used by the new also a model. The body has a long cab as standard, and a double cab as an extra. In both cases, the customer can choose whether to request a 5 or 6 foot platform. The volume of the latter has been increased by 7%, there are also 12V and 120V (North American mains voltage) electrical connectors on the side wall, the aluminum platform door can optionally be electrically operated – the operating switch is located in the rear light.
The usual comfort extras from passenger cars are also available for the Tacoma pickup, such as heated and ventilated seats, a head-up display, a digital interior mirror (it can also display the image of the rear camera), but there is also a special feature such as the 10-speaker JBL hi-fi it has a removable speaker, which can then also be used outside the car with the help of Bluetooth – the battery of the removable speaker is enough for 6 hours of operation and it is waterproof to a depth of 914 mm. They offer a number of trims that have significant differences, not only in appearance, but for example the more work-oriented SR, SR5 XtraCab and TRD PreRunner versions use leaf springs, the other trims have coil springs on the rigid axle, the TRD Sport model gets tighter shock absorbers, the enhanced off-road capability TRD Off-Road uses Bilstein shocks with separate oil reservoirs, the Limited trim comes with electronically controlled shocks.
Technically, we are dealing with a completely new car, the 2.4-liter turbo engine is offered as the only power source for the Toyota Tacoma, the standard output is 231 HP/329 Nm, here the newly developed 8-speed automatic transmission is provided. At the next level, the output is 274 HP/420 Nm, if the customer requests the 6-speed manual gearbox (speed synchronization, choke protection is also available), the output is 282 HP/429 Nm with the 8-speed automatic. The pinnacle is the self-charging hybrid drive, in which the electric motor is integrated into the 8-speed automatic transmission, the system output is 331 HP/630 Nm. By default, the rear wheels are driven and a partially self-locking rear differential is provided, with the option of switchable all-wheel drive with off-road gear and active electronic interventions. The self-charging hybrid is equipped with permanent all-wheel drive with a lockable central and rear differential with active electronic interventions.
