FORD

With 1,300 horsepower, the Mustang drifts easily

The unveiling of the new Ford Mustang drift racing car version could not be delayed any longer, as the machine already has a race on April 7-8, the construction built by RTR Vehicles will start at the round of the 2023 Formula Drift Championship held in Long Beach – this is not officially one of the 6 racing cars that Ford promised when introducing the new Mustang.

Together with the presentation of the Ford Mustang Spec 5-FD equipped with a 1300 hp biturbo V8, it was also announced that Vaugh Gittin Jr., who previously won 2 championship titles, will return to the sport after a 1-year absence – he spent the last year mostly helping Ford engineers built the racing car with his help, while also taking some time to develop the street car’s Drift handbrake function. RTR Vehicles will field 3 cars in the Formula Drift Championship, driven by Vaugh Gittin Jr., Chelse DeNofa and Adam LZ.

The Drift handbrake function is available when choosing the Performance Package, the high-voltage brake system regulates the braking effect on each side with 3 times the brake pressure used by the normal parking brake in order to work as best as possible under the driver’s hands based on the experience gained on racing cars.
