AUTONEWS

A look at the new D-CVT transmission technology

D-CVT or Dual Mode Continuously Variable Transmission technology has been installed in several Daihatsu products such as the All New Xenia, Rocky and Sirion.

By developing this new transmission, Daihatsu was able to bring advantages such as smoother acceleration, longer gear ratios and better fuel efficiency.

Unlike conventional transmissions in general, the D-CVT has similar similarities, but the difference is in the split gear that operates at high speeds, at least 60 km/h.

In this way, the D-CVT also still uses a pair of pulleys (primary pulley and secondary pulley) that are connected by a steel belt as a drive.

D-CVT is a transmission that has a working mechanism using a belt/pulley like other conventional CVTs. But what is different is the combination with Planetary Gear.

Both sides of each pulley can move to the right or left, so the width of the two pulleys can change to widen or narrow.

This change automatically changes the belt diameter on both pulleys and the gear ratio used. On the D-CVT, the gear shift that occurs from a stationary car to low to medium speeds.

The purpose of using split gears is to make power transmission more efficient or less wasted. As a result, car acceleration can be maximized while saving fuel consumption.

The use of D-CVT technology is also not very different from automatic transmissions in general, with the transmission lever in position D (drive) to go forward, R (reverse) to go backward.

Meanwhile, the Daihatsu Rocky transmission is equipped with the S (sport) position that works for greater acceleration, as well as the M (manual) position that allows the driver to feel the sensation of shifting gears manually.

Specifically considering for the New Sirion, it is equipped with a B (brake) position to maximize engine braking when encountering declining road surface conditions.

Taking care of the D-CVT transmission is also quite easy, there are only two things that must be ensured, namely to regularly check the oil volume and quality.
