FÓRMULA-1

GM through its subsidiary Cadillac bets on Formula 1 together with Andretti

Formula 1 is becoming more and more popular in the US and now GM wants to enter the F1 circus with a new team.

Cadillac, General Motors' luxury car brand, will enter F1 with the Andretti racing team, which today competes in IndyCar, among other things.

The team will be called Andretti Cadillac and as the name suggests, the investment is made in conjunction with motorsport specialist Andretti Global. GM promises that at least one of its drivers will be American.

Although GM is used to making engines, they don't design an F1 engine, but buy from an established manufacturer.

The usual route to Formula 1 is to buy an existing team, but GM appears to be taking the more complicated and expensive route of starting a new team. The F1 organization has previously stated that it is positive about the new stables.

The investment in F1 probably comes not just because Formula 1 has become popular in the US, but because Cadillac wants to establish itself more in Europe. Its ambition is to establish itself here as a purely electric car brand.

Except Cadillac Audi is also on its way to F1. They will start running in 2026, when F1 will also switch to synthetic e-fuels. The racing series has set a target of net zero emissions for the year 2030, but will stick with the hybrid slots for now.
