Mustang Carroll Shelby Centennial Edition
Shelby American is celebrating what would have been the 100th anniversary of its founder, Carroll Shelby. Sadly, the entrepreneur passed away in 2012, although that hasn't stopped us from seeing a wild limited edition Ford Mustang in honor of its creator. Dubbed the Mustang Carroll Shelby Centennial Edition, the model is based on the 2023 Ford Mustang GT.
Production will be limited to 100 units and converting a standard Mustang into this monster costs nearly $50,000. The conversion is scheduled to start in the second quarter of the year. Along with the car, customers will receive a book commemorating Shelby's centennial, as well as a black Stetson hat and a Shelby team memento.
Available as a coupe and convertible, it features a Shelby-branded grille, extended front wheel arches and a sizable rear spoiler. The model also sports a vented hood, aggressive rockers, special graphics and 20-inch forged aluminum wheels with a satin black finish. Outwardly, it is at least sinister.
Before entering the cabin, users are greeted by Shelby's signature door sills. Inside, there are black leather seats with contrasting white stitching and the Centennial Edition logo on the headrests. There's also no shortage of a numbered plaque on the dashboard and floor mats that bear Carroll Shelby's signature.
Underneath the hood of the Carroll Shelby Centennial Edition Mustang is the Mustang's 5.0-liter V8 engine. However, this one was equipped with a supercharger and a cat-back exhaust system signed by Borla. Thanks to the modifications, the power rises to 760 hp. The block can be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 10-speed automatic transmission.
On a technical level, the Centennial Edition is equipped with a new radiator, as well as high-performance shock absorbers and anti-roll bars. The icing on the cake on the front axle are the Brembo brake calipers. As Vince LaViolette of Shelby American points out, it's a "well-balanced car that's much more than a simple power upgrade."
