Uber thinking about the possibility of producing small electric cars
Uber is discussing the possibility of producing small urban electric cars with automakers. They could be used to transport people but also for delivery services.
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi says Uber is in talks with automakers to develop small electric vehicles tailored for the city. These cars will be vehicles that will not have very high top speeds, with slightly more modest specifications, so manufacturing costs will also be lower, he writes.
Uber is one of the world's largest carpooling or delivery services companies. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi is considering developing the company through his own line of small electric cars with minimal production costs.
Uber could develop its own range of vehicles... So far, Dara Khosrowshahi has not provided the names of automakers with which negotiations are carried out. As for the cars that could go into production, they could be vehicles where passengers can sit facing each other. For those who deliver products and other goods, they can also be mini vehicles with two or three wheels, but with plenty of storage space. These vehicles must be easy to park, able to squeeze through congested traffic in big cities.
Uber has long announced that it wants a large portion of its vehicle fleet to be electric by 2030 in some larger countries. For the UK, the deadline is even closer, being 2025. The company is working with an electric car maker called Arrival SA in the UK. Along with it, an urban car is being developed, suitable for the services provided by Uber.
