TESLA

Tesla Vision: Model 3 e Model Y vêm sem radar na América do Norte

Company will have new radars with vision to control, like a person

Tesla's decision last spring to abandon the use of radar in American-made Model 3 and Model Y electric vehicles may have been dictated by a component shortage, but afterwards the company did its best to convince the public that the car should rely on vision for control, like a person. Next month, Tesla is preparing to bring radar back into the sensors of its electric vehicles, but it will be a next-gen solution.

In any case, this is reported by the Electrek resource with reference to the procedure for approving a new component by FCC regulators. The application was submitted by Tesla about six months ago, but recently its validity period was extended, and along the way it became known that cars with a new generation radar could enter the market as early as mid-January.

This is a radar with improved resolution. If Elon Musk considered previous radars unnecessary for the implementation of reliable automatic vehicle control, then regarding this type of sensor with a very high resolution, the head of Tesla spoke more favorably, believing that its combination with a camera complex would improve the capabilities of the on-board electronics. By some reports, the new radar will have twice the resolution of its predecessor. This year, Tesla also managed to ditch the equipment of its electric vehicles with ultrasonic sensors, only increasing the degree of dependence on on-board automation by cameras.

As you know, a prototype of an updated version of the Tesla Model 3 was recently seen in California, in which an additional camera can be installed in the headlight housing. It is possible that a new generation radar was also tested in such a prototype. At least in the direction of travel, an additional obstacle recognition channel will not be superfluous from a safety point of view.
