More advanced and complete Civic Type R arrives in Europe
When it goes on sale, European customers will be able to access the most advanced and complete Civic Type R to date. Honda engineers perfected all aspects of the new model, such as design improvements that boost aerodynamic performance, lightweight components and an increase in horsepower.
This latest generation is the fastest and most capable Civic Type R in history, building on the capabilities of the previous model and the exceptional platform of the new Civic e:HEV. The engine available in the new Type R is the most powerful VTEC Turbo ever made by Honda. We are talking about a 2.0 VTEC TURBO engine with 329 hp at 6,500 rpm and 420 Nm of torque. This mechanic allows the model to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 275 km/h.
The revised 6-speed manual transmission provides quicker, more responsive gear changes, along with a new rev-tuning system and an auto-throttle function ensure perfect downshifts to help balance the car when entering corners.
The manufacturer announces a WLTP consumption of 12.2 km/l which is equivalent to 186 g of CO2 per km.
Other features of standard equipment are the Type R's design elements, which make it lower and wider than the Civic e:HEV. From this, only the front doors and the rear cover are maintained. New sculpted, aerodynamically shaped wheel arches combine with subtle but purposeful bumpers and a revamped rear spoiler to deliver a broad level of usable downforce. In addition, the new 19-inch light-alloy wheels in matte black are fitted as standard, with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires in a specific compound.
Inside, the Civic Type R offers the same levels of comfort, functionality and sophistication as the new Civic e:HEV.
For the first time in a Type R, the pre-set driving modes join a new fully programmable 'Individual Mode' that gives the driver the freedom to adapt the car to their preferences in a range of areas such as suspension, of the accelerator, the direction, the reading of the screen, the sound of the engine, among others. It is possible to configure these options through the large central touch screen, in addition to offering new options and functions in the infotainment system, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.
Orders for the new Honda Civic Type R can now be placed through the Official Honda Dealer Network, and the first deliveries in Europe are scheduled for January 2023.
The model will arrive heavily equipped with elements such as adaptive cruise control, rear view camera, front and rear parking sensors, 10.2-inch multi-information screen, Honda Connect with Apple Carplay and Android Auto, Driving, Honda SENSING Safety features, racing seats with Type R logo, alloy wheels (19-inch Matte Black), sports pedals, induction charger, LED headlights and triple exhaust pipe between others.
