Corvette line may have a specific sub-brand that will feature several models
After the launch of the latest generation of Chevrolet Corvette, the mid-engine C8, rumors began to appear about the possible expansion of the Corvette line and the creation of a specific sub-brand that will feature several models.
At the end of 2019, the CEO of General Motors, Mary Barra, left the door open for this possibility, and now the staff of the American magazine Car and Driver guarantees that the idea is still alive and that the manufacturer could be preparing the launch of this sub-brand for the year 2025.
According to the publication, Chevrolet intends to market two electric models under the umbrella of the Corvette brand alongside the super sports coupe itself, which in principle will be a four-door coupe and a high-performance crossover, both electric. For now, however, the brand did not want to confirm the rumors.
The Car and Driver source stated that the models will differentiate themselves from other electric vehicles on the market thanks to solutions such as high-efficiency inverters, four-wheel steering and the most compact possible components, for example.
The models will also have large-capacity batteries and an 800-volt electrical system, which will facilitate fast charging at a maximum power of 350 kW.
They are also expected to feature a two-speed transmission (Porsche Taycan style), an electronic 'by-wire' braking system and selective torque distribution.
In any case, the Corvette C8 will continue to be offered by the giant American group, and some high-performance versions are still in development, pending to be presented, as is the case of the all-wheel drive hybrid Corvette, an electric version and even a hypothetical ZR1 of enormous power.
If the Corvette sub-brand becomes a reality, the strategy will somewhat follow in the footsteps of Ford and its Mustang, which as we know added to its catalog a couple of years ago an electric SUV called the Mustang Mach-E, which is doing very well. on a commercial level.
