This week the new Porsche 911 Dakar was presented, a crossover version of the legendary German sports car, of which we already know that only 2,500 examples will be produced, each costing 256,042 euros. The brand already admits orders, however, the first units will still take some time to arrive. Instead, it would be easier and faster to purchase this 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Safari on the online auction platform Bring a Trailer.
It is a 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe and modified by STRAAT to imitate the Porsche 953 that won the 1984 Dakar Rally. It was originally painted in Guardia Red and had two owners, the second and current one from 2019. It accumulates 434,520 kilometers.
This Porsche 911 arrived at STRAAT, a specialist company based in Florida (USA), and for 20 months it was being modified. First it was completely dismantled, and later rebuilt until it adopted the appearance shown in the images. They changed the original red paintwork to a Baltic Blue Metallic and completely refurbished the interior.
To this must be added the installation of a Warn winch, Cibie LED auxiliary lights, an aluminum piece to protect the underside, a safety bar, a roof frame to accommodate a spare wheel and a Von Shocks suspension with coil springs. fronts that raise the vehicle's height.
Plus, it includes a Getty Design ducktail spoiler, protective bars, 15-inch Braid Fullrace TA wheels, shod with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 tires. Regarding the engine, it is a 3.2-liter boxer 6-cylinder block combined with a new G50 manual transmission.
