Drako Dragon: the brand's SUV that is a mix of the Tesla Model X and and Lamborghini Urus in terms of design
It was August 2019 when Silicon Valley startup Drako Motors briefly unveiled its first production car, the Drako GTE. Now, after more than three years, the North American company returns with a second production model, which really leaves no one indifferent.
As we can see in the images, it is halfway between a Tesla Model X and a Lamborghini Urus in terms of design. However, it's based on a carbon fiber monocoque chassis and in its guts hides a four-engine powertrain that produces a monstrous 2,000 hp. The company's idea is to make the first deliveries in 2026.
The Drako Dragon has a starting price of $290,000, a very reasonable amount compared to its $1.25 million GTE. The super SUV can already be reserved with a prior deposit of 500 dollars, except for the First Edition, of which there will be only 99 copies and whose reservation costs 5,000 dollars. It is planned to manufacture 5,000 copies per year.
The Drako Dragon is an SUV measuring 5,054 mm in length, 2,057 mm in width and 1,600 mm in height. It was designed by Lowie Vermeersch and his team at GranStudio in Italy. Of particular note are the two large gullwing-style doors, a coupe-style roofline, 23-inch alloy wheels and aggressive aerodynamics that include a hole in the front grille.
The interior has a total of five seats. Presiding over the dashboard is a huge 17.1-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. This is complemented by a smaller digital instrument cluster, two camera screens that replace the rear-view mirrors, and two full-size tablets in the front seatbacks.
But the main course is under the hood, as the Dragon is “the most powerful and fastest production hyper-luxury SUV in history”. Despite its 2,254 kg of weight, the 2,000 horsepower allows it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2 seconds. It is capable of completing the quarter mile in just 9 seconds and reaching 322 km/h. The battery offers an estimated range of 676 km.
In addition, it can be charged at powers of up to 500 kW. The adaptive suspension changes the ground clearance depending on the mode selected: 163 mm in Tarmac, 213 mm in Cruise and up to 315 mm in Overland. The carbon ceramic discs measure 420 mm with ten-piston calipers at the front and 410 mm with six-piston calipers at the rear.
