Seven 340 2023: it's the new version of the iconic sports car for purists

British manufacturer Caterham has just announced a new version of its iconic sports car for purists, the Caterham Seven 340 2023, which replaces the previous Seven 275 and equips a larger-displacement engine, with more generous power and torque figures.

This new Caterham Seven 340 hides under the hood a 2.0 liter naturally aspirated Duratec engine, with 4 cylinders in line and 170 hp at 7,250 rpm, which develops a maximum torque of 174 Nm at 6,500 rpm.

To put it in perspective, it is worth remembering that the previous Seven 275 used a 1.6-liter, 4-cylinder Ford Sigma engine, which offered 133 hp of power, so the improvement is notable in this new version of the British two-seater model.

The British brand has not yet announced performance figures for this new model, but without a doubt the Seven 340 should be much faster than its predecessor, which in itself was fast enough, with an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in about 5 seconds.

Perhaps the most interesting thing about the Seven 340 is that it offers two different packages, depending on whether the customer will use it on the road or on the circuit, and both versions will be available with the standard or wide chassis. The S-Pack version focuses on road travel, with a suspension tuned for public roads and 14-inch wheels.

For its part, the R-Pack version is designed for the circuit and includes 15-inch Orcus wheels, limited-slip differential, sports suspension, four-point belts, carbon fiber dashboard and a lighter composite windshield.

“Thanks to the fact that the Seven 340 is available with S and R packages, it really is a Caterham for everything. A car that lends itself perfectly to long journeys or Sunday rides, while the R version is more capable of setting lap times on the best circuits in Europe”, commented Bob Laishey, CEO of Caterham Cars.

This new Caterham Seven 340 will be available in Europe and Japan, starting at €45,700 for the 340S and €47,200 for the 340R.
