The world's best-selling electric car looks like a toy
The best selling electric car? Don't look for it among well-known brands. The king looks like a toy.
Wuling Hongguang was developed in cooperation between the Chinese SAIC and the American General Motors (GM). Thanks to its popularity among young buyers, the small electric car topped China's (and the world's) sales statistics for two years. In the last six months, it has been number one among electric cars worldwide: more than one million units have been sold since its launch on the market in July 2020.
Special models like the Gameboy Edition(image below), which massively increased the share of male buyers, also helped. With an electric range of 200 or 300 kilometers and a starting price of around 8,500 euros, the Wuling Hongguang is irresistible for many customers. A cabriolet was also presented based on this model.
This vehicle has 20, 27 and 40 hp engines (depending on the version), speed is limited to 100 km/h, is three meters long and, under ideal conditions, can carry up to four people.
Its popularity in China is so great that it has inspired countless similar models. In Lithuania, there is even a licensed version of this little car, which is called the FreZe Nikrob, and the initial model costs 13,000 euros.
