Golf GTI 40th anniversary edition: on sale in the North American market

Volkswagen of America is celebrating four decades since the then Rabbit GTI went on sale in the North American market.

Therefore, a special edition was prepared based on the current Golf GTI, which can also be obtained in two exclusive colors: Tornado Red and Urano Grey. In addition to the above, the offer also includes Pomelo Yellow Metallic and Opal White Pearl colors.

All feature 19-inch alloy wheels finished in gloss black, 235/35 tyres, honeycomb side graphics and '40' stickers, black roof and mirror caps in contrast to the main body colour.

The seats with Scalepaper Plaid fabric and the “40” logo on the steering wheel are part of the package.

There are no mechanical changes, so the car is powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with 241 hp. Additionally, adaptive dampers and electronic differential lock come as standard.

Volkswagen plans to race just 1,500 cars and split that number roughly evenly between the six-speed manual and seven-speed dual-clutch automatic versions.

Prices start at $33,055 for the Golf GTI 40th Anniversary Edition with manual transmission or $33,855 with automatic transmission.
