MERCEDES-BENZ
Mercedes-Benz will launch the first mass-produced electric vehicle to take advantage of technological advances from the highly efficient Vision EQXX rental lab in 2024.
The currently unnamed next-generation model will be the first to be branded "Entry Luxury" and will be a four-door sedan similar in size to the CLA, Robert Lesnick, head of exterior design at Mercedes-Benz, told Autocar.
Essentially an electric counterpart to the ICE-powered Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the EV will be around 4.7 meters long, giving the brand a much-needed competitor in a segment currently contested by the Tesla Model 3, BMW i4 and Polestar 2. The AMG variant's performance will arrive in 2025 and will get some of the EQXX's active aerodynamics, including a movable diffuser and an active spoiler, confirmed Lesnik.
The model will be one of the first to use the Mercedes-Benz Modular Architecture (MMA) introduced in the EQXX chassis.
A dedicated platform built for small and midsize electric vehicles, it promises unparalleled range and performance.
Mercedes-Benz did not say whether the new EV arriving in 2024 will feature the same battery technology as the EQXX, which has a CATL battery of around 100kWh, about 35% lighter and about half the size. In concept, the compact package allowed for a more spacious cabin, as well as reducing the car's weight and height, increasing range and handling.
Another important part of the MMA platform will be a new generation electric motor that will be smaller, lighter and more efficient than similarly sized motors.
