EXCLUSIVE: next-gen M2 in images for the first time
You don't have to wait until October 12, when BMW will reveal the next generation M2, as photos of the German company's new model have just leaked. And at first glance, the more affordable M model seems to have lost the harmonious design of the current M2.
The model will be launched in April 2023, with the new M2 being the last M model with an internal combustion engine without some electrical assistance. More specifically, information so far indicates that under the hood will be the M4's engine and brakes, while it will borrow from its larger sporty "sister" and the xDrive all-wheel drive system.
The German sports model will be powered by a 3.0-liter twin-turbo engine (S58), which will produce 420-460 horsepower with 550 Nm of torque. This will be mated to either a 6-speed manual transmission or an 8-speed automatic transmission, with drive sent to the rear axle via an electronically controlled active M differential.
It will be able to do 0-100 km/h in about 4 seconds, with a top speed of almost 285 km/h. It has 19″ or 20″ wheels, carbon fiber roof, M carbon bucket seats for driver and passenger.
The new M2 will be available in new colors such as Zandvoort Blue, Toronto Red, Brooklyn Gray and Black Sapphire. The car will be built at BMW's plant in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, where the 2-Series Coupe is already built.
