Elon Musk announced that the Semi truck with a range of 800 km will go on sale this year
The Semi line trucks, which had to travel several hundred kilometers with a fully charged semi trailer due to the charge stored in the traction batteries, are one of Tesla's long-term builds, which were introduced in 2017 and so were supposed to go into production in 2018, which did not occur. This week, Elon Musk announced that the Semi version with a range of 800 km will go on sale this year.
More recently, the Tesla boss stated that the company will be able to start semi-electric truck deliveries no earlier than next year. The key condition for the start of its mass production must be the availability of 4680 battery cells in sufficient quantities. In the United States, where the Semi trucks will be assembled, batteries of this type are already being produced by a joint venture between Panasonic and Tesla in Nevada, as well as a Tesla factory opened in Texas in the spring. At one of this year's quarterly events, Musk said the company will not be limited in its plans to produce 4680 batteries this year, although they are planned to be used in Texas-assembled Model Y crossovers.
Tesla's boss did not specify how much semi-electric tractors with a power reserve of 800 km will cost, but the price of $180,000 is fixed for them on the company's website. only materials for the manufacture of batteries, but also all other components. It is worth mentioning that the “longer-range” version of the Semi should enter the series with some advancement in the schedule, as the truck also has an initial modification with a cruising range of around 480 km.
The day before, Elon Musk also made it clear that the Cybertruck pickups, which will be assembled until mid-summer of next year, will be offered at higher prices than planned about three years ago at the time of the announcement. This week, the Tesla boss pointed out that Cybertruck pickups won't be available until next year. Like the Semi trucks, they will be assembled at a facility in Texas. Prototype trucks have been assembled since last year at a facility in Nevada, and Tesla is already using them as an experiment for its own logistics needs. Who will be the first recipients of the serialized versions of the Semi, Elon Musk did not specify.
