MASERATI MC20 GT2: REGRESSO DA MARCA ÀS COMPETIÇÕES GT2

MC20 GT2: the return of a legend to GT2 competitions

With the MC12, Maserati staged memorable races in the FIA GT championship between 2004 and 2010. Now, the Italian brand proudly announces its return to competition with the new MC20 GT2. For now the car has been shown in recreation format and will debut in the Fanatec GT2 European Championship next year.

Based on the production MC20, this GT2 version meets FIA regulations as a non-road homologated race car, powered by Maserati's new 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine known as the Nettuno. Power has not yet been announced, but it should go beyond the standard 630 hp.

This mechanics is coupled to a 6-speed sequential racing transmission with fins, which sends power exclusively to the rear wheels.

A racing clutch and mechanical limited-slip differential help with the car's traction, while a GT2-approved racing body kit guarantees maximum downforce, as regulated by the FIA for this championship.

The MC20 GT2, which meets all the requirements to compete, comes equipped with a six-point seat belt, carbon fiber steering wheel, in-car camera, air conditioning, adjustable competition ABS, tire pressure monitor, etc. Maserati explained that it is possible that there will be changes to the equipment during the vehicle's development.

Last weekend, during the 2022 Spa 24 Hours, the trident brand celebrated “an event dedicated to the glorious milestones of its sporting history” and symbolically brought together the MC12 and MC20 as its GT2 racing cars. Remembering that the MC12 won in Belgium on three occasions, in 2005, 2006 and 2008.

“We are driven by our passion, both on the road and on the track”, comments Davide Grasso, CEO of Maserati. “We have a long history of world-class racing excellence and we are very proud to compete with the extraordinary MC20. Racing has always been Maserati's natural habitat and now, in both the Fanatec GT2 European Series Championship and Formula E, the brand is starting anew and starting from its roots to build the future.”

The full and official debut of the MC20 GT2 on the circuit is scheduled for 2023. In fact, Maserati's offensive is being historic, both in production models and in racing vehicles. Stellantis has given new gas to the brand and it seems that it is doing well. After the MC20 and Grecale, it's time to meet the new GranTurismo and GranCabrio. I hope it's soon...
