DODGE DIZ ADEUS AO LENDÁRIO V8 HEMI E AVANÇA NO ELÉTRICO

Dodge Hornet: the electrified crossover that will be based on the Alfa Romeo Tonale

The transition to the electric car is moving faster for some manufacturers than for others, although it is clear that it affects everyone equally. Dodge remains a safe haven for V8s, however, things are about to change as the new Charger and Challenger will only be offered in zero-emission versions.

A Dodge spokesperson confirmed to Motor1 folks that the next-generation platform will not only lose the V8 Hemi, but all internal combustion engines as well.

Therefore, the rumors that the Hemi would return to future Charger and Challenger models are unfounded. “The news is incorrect”, clarified the spokesperson for the American brand, “Hemi will no longer be on this platform. The next generation will be all electric.”

The platform in question is the LX, which is Chrysler's full-size rear-drive configuration dating back to 2005. Current models use modified versions of the platform - LD for the Charger and LA for the Challenger - which house V6 and V8 engines. , and the 8-speed automatic transmission.

It's no secret that Dodge is working on a new electric muscle car. Announced last year, it is expected to be released in prototype form in the coming weeks.

In fact, the production model is expected to be unveiled in 2024, but Dodge CEO Tim Kuniskis had previously hinted that its arrival won't spell the immediate end of combustion engines.

But there is solace for V8 enthusiasts, rumors suggest that the supercharged Hellcat engine will return to the scene with a new version, tuned to run on E85 fuel.

The first Stellantis-branded plug-in hybrid will be the Dodge Hornet(image above). Remembering that this is a crossover based on the Alfa Romeo Tonale, with which it will share much of the aesthetics and powertrain.
