Chinese company Dongfeng presented its new SUV brand Mengshi (Warrior) at the Chengdu Motor Show. The brand's first carriers were the M-Terrain SUV and M-Terrain S models: they are built on the MORA platform and are equipped with impressive power plants. Thus, the power of the purely electric version is 1070 hp. For comparison, the Tesla Cybertruck should receive an 800 hp power plant.
Dongfeng Mengshi doesn't look as futuristic as the Cybertruck, but for some, its more familiar design will be an advantage. At the same time, the cars look deliberately brutal, more interesting than some Jeep Wrangler Rubicon.
The design suggests excellent off-road capability, and the Mengshi truly has something to offer off-road explorers. These cars will use M ATS smart off-road technology with nine driving modes. If necessary, the air suspension will increase the ground clearance by 105 mm. And there will also be three electric differential locks - just like in real SUVs!
The MORA platform, on which the cars are built, carries many interesting things. Firstly, it allows you to create cars with different body types - a pickup truck, an all-terrain wagon, a minivan, etc. Second, the platform is designed for creating pure and hybrid electric vehicles. Finally, as a Formula 1 car, it uses Steer-by-Wire technology, meaning there is no physical connection between the steering wheel and the wheels. Due to this, it turned out to make the chassis almost fully controllable - the rear wheels can be turned to reduce the turning radius, and due to this, diagonal movement mode ("crab march") is implemented.
The M-Terrain SUV is built in a typical SUV body. The length of the car is expected to be 5.2 meters. The M-Terrain S is not a "coupe version" of the older model, as it may seem, but a pickup truck. Of course, in this version there is little sense of the load platform, but probably the production model will be more practical.
Dongfeng has not yet released Mengshi's characteristics, but before that the parameters of these cars have been lit in the local regulator's database. From the list of parameters, it is concluded that a purely electric version will receive a power plant with a capacity of 1070 hp. and a traction battery with a capacity of 140 kWh, will provide a power reserve of 500 km. Hybrid version - with a power plant with a capacity of 600 hp, a traction battery with a capacity of 65.88 kWh and a cruising range of 800 km. The maximum speed will be 180 km/h. The most powerful version accelerates to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds.
Mengshi M-Terrain production will go on sale in China in 2023. Dongfeng expects to sell 4,000 vehicles a month, but prices have not yet been released.
