SCANIA

Scania P 280 6x4 a gás

Model P280 6x4 gas will soon reach the Brazilian market

A new gas-powered Scania is coming to the Brazilian market. This is the P 280, a model with 6x4 traction aimed at the sugarcane sector. According to the brand, the novelty focuses on sugarcane transshipment operations. For this, the truck has the XT package. The suggested price is around R$ 900 thousand (local currency). That is, around 30% more than the table for the diesel version.

According to the manufacturer, the kit includes a steel bumper, towing pin and inspection step, among other items. In addition, there are eight gas cylinders installed in the chassis. With this, the total capacity is 220 m³ of fuel. According to Scania, the P 280 6x4 gas has a range of up to 500 km.

Depending on the brand, the time required for refueling is equivalent to that of similar models with a diesel engine. That is, around 15 minutes. According to Scania, this is possible thanks to the so-called NGV2 nozzle, which has a higher gas flow rate.

With Scania on gas, CO2 emission reduction can reach 90%...According to Scania do Brasil's pre-sales engineer, Ivanovik Marx, customer tests have not yet started. Therefore, there is no data on the average operating time between refills. In sugarcane transshipment, autonomy is counted in hours, not kilometers driven.

Although Scania does not provide the name of the plant that will evaluate this first unit of the P 280 gas, Ivanovik says that the objective is for customers to be able to produce the biogas used in the truck. Thus, considering the entire cycle, the reduction of CO2 emissions can reach 90%.

Scania P 280 has a 280 hp 9.3 engine...The new P 280 option has a 9.3 liter Scania engine. However, the six-cylinder is Otto cycle. Power is 280 hp at 1,900 rpm and torque of 138 mkgf is available between 1,000 rpm and 1,400 rpm. This maximum force is equivalent to that of the diesel model.

The transmission is the GRS900, 12-speed automated, plus two crowler-type gears. In addition, there is retarder brake system. According to Scania, the braking power is around 500 hp.

Another highlight is the short cabin with a low roof, which guarantees greater load capacity. Regarding the distance between the axes, the most suitable for sugarcane transshipment is the one with 4,000 mm. However, the brand offers options up to 6,050 mm.

The model has a single cabin with a bed... In addition, the manufacturer's engineering area recommends that the differential ratio be reduced. This is because the truck will run at low speed to accompany the harvester during sugarcane transshipment.

As the cabin is 2,920 mm high, the engine tunnel is high. This reduces the space between the driver and passenger seats. Despite the reduced dimensions, the cabin is similar to the Scania R line. In addition, it has equipment such as a multifunctional steering wheel and curved panel, which facilitates the visualization of the instruments.

The version presented by the brand has a single cabin. According to Scania, it is the most suitable for this type of operation. However, the model can also have a sleeper cabin. In addition, depending on the application and type of implement, there are options for roof and side deflectors.

XT package guarantees versatility... The XT package guarantees more versatility to the model. The steel bumper, for example, translates into a good angle of attack, around 30°. Thus, the truck travels more freely on very rough terrain. In addition, the towing pin is easy to handle.

The steps on the sides of the cabin facilitate the load inspection task. There are also headlight protection grilles. As well as an air intake system in a high position, in order to reduce dust aspiration.

Although the share is still small, sales of gas trucks are advancing in Brazil. For now, Scania is the only brand to offer this type of option. According to the manufacturer, around 600 units have been licensed since the launch in the country at the end of 2019.

The brand sells options for road applications with bucket, grain, tank and refrigerator, among others. There is also the P 340 for selective collection. With the new P 280, Scania intends to further consolidate its presence in the market.
