N Vision 74: an homage to Hyundai's Giugiaro-Penned Pony Coupe Concept from 1974
We're used to seeing futuristic concept cars around here. And we also saw a lot of retro style concepts.
But Hyundai's new N Vision 74?
This... this is... something else.
Equal parts Initial D and Blade Runner, the N Vision 74 pays homage to Hyundai's Giugiaro-Penned Pony Coupe Concept.
And in addition to its delightfully retro-futuristic vibe, there's another dropped jaw: the N Vision 74 is an electric vehicle powered by a hybrid battery/hydrogen fuel cell system.
By combining traditional battery electric power with a hydrogen fuel cell, Hyundai claims the N Vision 74 does well north of 600 horsepower. The concept vehicle has an estimated range of over 370 miles, and even better, Hyundai says the fuel cell can be refilled in about five minutes.
Hyundai did not stop there.
In addition to the R Vision 74, it ditched the RN22e, another performance EV concept derived from the new Hyundai IONIQ 6 EV. Hyundai says the AWD RN22e sedan has a top speed of over 150mph and can be recharged in under 18 minutes.
While it's easy to get excited about some amazing-looking EV concepts that feature fantastic performance numbers, we're eagerly waiting to see what aspects of any ride seep into a production vehicle.
That said, Hyundai seems pretty committed to electric and hydrogen power, so it certainly looks like the company is putting some weight behind these ventures. And considering Hyundai's first high-performance all-electric model, the IONIQ 5 N is coming in 2023, we might not have to wait that long to see if any of them come to fruition.
Anyway, you can get a closer look at both concepts in this video from Hyundai:
