The Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 hybrid racing car may be the fastest, but it's not Gazoo Racing's only rally car, as there's also a Toyota GR Starlet that recently debuted in South Africa.
The GR Starlet is based on the previous generation of sister Toyota Glanza Maruti Suzuki Baleno and not the latest model introduced a few months ago. and the Gazoo Racing livery can be seen.
Visual modifications include front and rear fender add-ons, ventilated hood, roof air intake and a large rear spoiler. The developers have simplified the interior to the basics with the addition of an FIA approved roll cage and safety kit. As expected, the rally car has little in common with road cars in terms of chassis and powertrain tuning. Under the hood is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with Motec ECU. Toyota did not give us figures, but local media speculate that the plant will produce more than 200 hp. Power is sent to all four wheels via an all-wheel drive system and a sequential gearbox. The GR Starlet is also equipped with Reiger shocks, Alcon brakes and racing wheels to ensure maximum performance on difficult terrain.
The Toyota GR Starlet made its racing debut at the Cape Overberg Rally in South Africa with former South African National Rally champions Guy Botterill and Simon Vasey-Lyle. The next scheduled event is the Sekunda rally.
