South Korean tech giant to supply cameras for Cybertruck and Semi truck
Providing electronic components to third parties is an important part of Samsung's business. Although the company has decided not to produce its own electric vehicles, it is promoting its components, such as batteries and camera modules, for use in popular car brand products, and it is doing so quite actively.
Camera modules have become important to the automotive industry as automakers implement ever higher levels of driver assistance systems and autonomous driving solutions. Tesla is leading the way in this area. Until recently, the company was looking for potential camera suppliers for Cybertruck pickups and the Semi truck. According to the latest data, Samsung Electro-Mechanics managed to crush LG Innotek in this race, taking the order in full and leaving no competitors even a small slice.
It is known that now Samsung Electro-Mechanics will supply all camera modules for Cybertruck and Semi. The automaker has already announced these models and now aims to accelerate the process of bringing cars to the mass market.
In addition to Samsung and LG, Taiwanese companies also applied for a major contract. Samsung won the competition for the second time by signing a contract with Tesla. Last year it received an order to supply camera modules for the Cybertruck, the manufacturer will supply them to Musk's factories in Shanghai and Berlin.
It is known that Samsung Electro-Mechanics also produces camera modules for smartphones, but products for electric vehicles are much more expensive, which allows the company to increase its profits in the future. Tesla electric vehicles typically use 8 cameras each.
