Woking brand presents its new car adapted for circuits McLaren Artura GT4

Like Lotus, McLaren is one of the manufacturers that has always had a special interest in reducing the weight of its models as much as possible, something that is evident even in its latest launch, the McLaren Artura, which despite its hybrid configuration, weighs 1,395 pounds. pounds of empty mass.

Just before the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which starts this Thursday, the Woking brand unveiled its new racing car, the McLaren Artura GT4, which is even lighter than the street model, as it doesn't need to be hybridised.

In order to comply with the GT4 competition regulations, which do not allow hybrids, this new Artura had to leave behind its street configuration, leaving the V6 engine without any kind of electrical assistance. Thanks to this, the Artura GT4 is 130 kilos lighter than the street model.

According to McLaren, the model is also 100 kilos lighter than its predecessor, the 570S GT4, as that model had a heavier V8 engine, and this V6 is more compact and lighter, in addition to being powerful enough for the car to be competitive on the track.

The street Artura's battery pack has also given way to a 110-litre gas tank, while the transmission is different, specifically a 7-speed gearbox, instead of the 8-speed gearbox fitted as standard.

The transmission also has shorter ratios than the 570S GT4, which should result in better acceleration, and the rear axle features a mechanical limited-slip differential. According to McLaren, fuel consumption and cooling of the brake system have been improved.

Of course, the GT4 receives a much more aggressive body kit, which allows it to increase the aerodynamic load even above that generated by the 570S GT4, thanks to a specific splitter and a new aerofoil with seven levels of adjustment to adapt it to each track. For the time being we don't know how much power this new GT4 develops, but we suppose more than 550 hp, in line with other rivals. A slightly higher price than the street model is also expected, around 200,000 pounds sterling, something like 1.25 million reais(local corrency).
