M3 Touring drops Mercedes-AMG E63 S at Nürburgring
The difficult and demanding German Nürburgring circuit is almost always used to determine the best, fastest and most effective sports car on the market, in the most different categories. And as far as the sportier van is concerned, the title has so far belonged to the Mercedes-AMG E63 S, which held the track record that BMW decided to challenge with the new M3 Touring.
Little is known about the next generation of the M3 Touring, which will be unveiled to the public on June 23 during the Festival of Speed in Goodwood. Everything indicates that the engine used will continue to be the 3.0 biturbo with six cylinders in line, of which versions are known today with 480 hp and 510 hp, associated with a torque of 650 Nm. But when it appears at Goodwood, the new M3 van will also boast the title of the fastest van in the world at the Nürburgring.
As if to prepare the commercial career of the M3 Touring, BMW went to the North Ring (Nordschleife) of the Nürburgring to beat the Mercedes record, which set the best mark in 7 minutes and 45 seconds. The video explains how it all happened and confirms that the BMW van, running at 7.35.060, beat the time of its substantially more powerful rival – the AMG E63 S announces 612 hp, extracted from a biturbo V8.
During the presentation at Goodwood, BMW will reveal how it will equip the M3 Touring with regard to the transmission, whether it will offer the possibility of choosing between rear or four-wheel drive. After the presentation in England, an idea should be given of the price of the new sports van, being certain that it will be slightly higher than that practiced by the saloon with the same level of engine and equipment, which in Portugal is marketed for values from 112 thousand euros
