Elon Musk reveals that in the very near future, his company's cars will be fully autonomous
For the Tesla boss, changing the milestone of the appearance of fully autonomous electric vehicles from a control point of view is something common, but the repeated failures of the originally mentioned deadlines don't bother Elon Musk at all, and he names a new goal with enviable persistence. . This time it's tied to May 2023, and it's based on the billionaire's statements during his visit to Brazil.
Elon Musk visited this South American country at the invitation of local authorities to discuss an infrastructure project to provide remote settlements with Internet access via Starlink satellite by the company SpaceX, which he also heads. Speaking to the Brazilian press, according to Electrek, Musk again promised within a year to provide Tesla electric vehicles with the ability to drive without driver intervention.
Traditionally, the Tesla boss linked these stages of the company's development to the end of the calendar year, but this time he measured the year from when he had to answer the question. In August of this year, the company will hold an event dedicated to the development of artificial intelligence systems and, within its framework, it will definitely not be able to fail to discuss issues related to active driver assistance systems. Before the end of this year, Tesla also intends to open access to the beta testing program for the latest versions of the FSD software to all customers in the United States who have paid for the corresponding option. In 2024, Tesla would like to start production at a new Texas facility of specialized taxis that do not require a driver to be in the cab.
In other words, now Tesla's management is leading the public to the idea that by next spring, Tesla's electric vehicles will be able to automatically drive so safely and efficiently that driver intervention will not be necessary. Elon Musk has made these promises more than once, but they've already shifted from the original dates by several years, so the new prediction shouldn't be considered definitive.
