The Kia team is taking part in the Rebelle Rally for the third year in a row, this time with the newly launched Sportage X-Pro. The new 2023 Sportage X-Pro will compete in the X-Cross class, and Kia ensured it had everything it needed to tackle this challenging female task of navigating rough terrain.
As the Sportage is already a good platform to build a rally car on, the X-Pro version is minimally modified from the standard all-wheel drive versions of the crossover.
The standard off-road equipment is good enough that Kia simply throws in a set of BF Goodrich all-terrain tires and 17-inch wheels to increase the ride height to 21cm.
So far, victory has eluded Kia. Two 2022 Sorento PHEVs claimed podium spots in the X-Class in 2021, while a 2020 Telluride finished second in the 2020 rally. Hopefully the Sportage X-Pro can take the top spot, but Kia faces stiff competition. Hyundai enters the competition for the first time in a Santa Cruz pickup, and you can bet that all the old favorites like the Ford Bronco Sport and Jeep Wrangler will also defend their titles.
“As a long-time member of Kia's vehicle lineup and with its off-road performance ready, the Sportage X-Pro is well equipped for cross-country Rebelle Rally driving,” said Steve Center. Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of Kia America. "We're excited to support this year's team as they demonstrate that the new Sportage doesn't just look ready for off-road adventure, it's ready for it."
We are excited to welcome Kia back to Rebelle Rally with the Sportage X-Pro,” said Emily Miller, founder of Rebelle Rally. “Given the unpredictable and challenging nature of the track, we are looking forward to seeing how the Sportage X-Pro can successfully handle this year's topography.”
Not long ago, our publication wrote that the new Kia Rio 2022-2023 cross-coupe was featured in the first independent photo renders. Crossovers have been growing in popularity among drivers around the world for several years now. So it's not surprising that automakers, in hopes of bigger profits, started to produce cross-versions of their passenger models.
