Atego 'Project Rhino' Krug Expedition: a motorhome adapted for extreme terrain

The sales figures for camper vans only grow and this Mercedes-Benz Atego from Krug Expedition arrives to complete the offer. As we know, the 'camperization' of MPVs and commercial derivatives is in vogue, as they offer very practical solutions for the most adventurous without the need to make a large outlay.

In addition, more and more models leave the factory with these characteristics, without the need to go to the preparers later. We can certainly imagine that they are not as surprising and comfortable as motorhomes, and that in some ways is not far from reality.

However, it must be recognized that camper vans capable of entering the most inhospitable places have their point. Without being as radical as the mythical Unimog, the Mercedes-Benz Atego 1023 A S-cab can be a great base for camping, which is why Krug Expedition created this very special vehicle.

Named 'Project Rhino', this bespoke camper offers a cozy apartment ideal for resting after a long day of hiking, cycling and adventures in general. They decided to use an Atego as a base because of its traction capabilities and its high height, which allows it to cross the most difficult paths on the planet.

On the outside, the Krug Expedition gave the Atego a more robust look. For the rear, a 4.3 by 2.2 meter bucket was created, where the accommodation was built. New are the protective covers for the headlights and the rack over the cabin. Access to the living area is via the side door or from the passenger compartment.

Safety glass panels were installed for the windows, while a storage space was reserved at the back and a small garage for motorcycles. As for the interior, we find a double bed, kitchen, closets and a bathroom. There is also no lack of a dining room thanks to a sliding table.

The stove is induction and has an integrated sink, as well as a refrigerator. The most interesting options include an on-board battery charger, compact air conditioning, an internet router, water filter with a treatment unit, satellite TV, washer and dryer. The price starts at 300,000 euros.

Incidentally, the OM 934 4-cylinder, 5.1-liter turbodiesel engine delivers 231 hp and 900 Nm of torque. It is coupled to an automatic transmission and has three locking differentials.
