CX-60 PHEV SUV: the brand's first plug-in hybrid technology model for the European market
The new Mazda CX-60 PHEV is the first model with Mazda's plug-in hybrid technology aimed at the SUV segment of the European market.
A major model introduced over a decade ago, Mazda's new flagship represents everything that has been built into the brand's DNA over the last 100 years, from exterior and interior design to the finest Japanese craftsmanship, to the most recent human-centric technological innovations and world-class powertrain.
The beauty of style and dynamics of the new Mazda CX-60 PHEV convey the intelligence and elegance of the latest developments applied to Kodo design - the Japanese concept of Ma, a reflection of the calm and dignified beauty of empty space - woven into the hardness of the impressive architecture. of a front-engine, rear-wheel drive SUV.
Exclusively Mazda and deeply rooted in Japanese heritage, the elegant, premium interior design introduces the Kaichou concept, a disruptive element that blends different materials and textures such as maple wood, Nappa leather, uniquely crafted Japanese fabrics and chrome accents, plus the Musubu concept, the binding art that was the inspiration for the specially detailed seams on the instrument panel.
The wood treatment on board reflects Hacho's Japanese aesthetic, an asymmetrical balance, or intentional unevenness. The different patterns and threads of the fabrics respond sensitively to changes in light, while a Japanese sewing technique called Kakenui creates 'suspended sewing' connections, with spaces between the fabrics.
Human-centric technologies have been rethought and refined to enhance the Jinba-Ittai driving experience and, more than ever, meet individual driver needs. The innovative Mazda Driver Personalization System allows it to recognize the occupant of the driver's seat, automatically adjusting the surroundings (seat position, steering wheel, mirrors, head-up display system, even the sound and climate control settings), adapting it your physical constitution as well as your personal preferences. The Mazda CX-60 PHEV leads the introduction in Europe of plug-in hybrid proposals, the result of a powertrain that combines a 4-cylinder Skyactiv-G 2.5 direct injection gasoline engine with a 100 kW electric motor, of great size, an all-new 8-speed automatic transmission, and a high-capacity 355V/17.8kWh battery.
This mechanical combination provides a total system power of 327 hp/241 kW and a torque of 500 Nm, making it the most powerful road-going model Mazda has ever produced. The Mazda CX-60 PHEV boasts impressive performance figures, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.8 seconds.
On the other hand, Mazda's new PHEV presents itself with excellent environmental credentials. Fuel consumption is in the range of 66.7 km/l and CO2 emissions are in the range of 33 g/km (combined values, WLTP).
The Mazda CX-60 e-Skyactiv PHEV allows 63 km of purely electric driving, with the vehicle traveling at 100 km/h or less.
The Skyactiv Multi-Solution Scalable Architecture of the new Mazda CX-60 features numerous improvements that ensure excellent driving dynamics. Adopting Mazda's human-centric approach, they include increased frame rigidity, ensuring drivers can feel the vehicle's response without delay, seats that make it even easier for each occupant to maintain balance while the car is in motion, a suspension which stabilizes the vehicle's posture while driving, and a Kinematic Posture Control (KPC) system, which controls vehicle posture, unique to Mazda.Placing the high-voltage battery between the front and rear axles and as low as possible within the model's frame gives the new Mazda CX-60 PHEV a particularly low center of gravity. In combination with a permanent all-wheel drive system that incorporates the transfer of torque between the axles, through an axle, it gives the model superior handling characteristics, at the level of the best proposals in the premium segment.
The new Mazda CX-60 PHEV integrates a comprehensive range of advanced i-Activsense safety and driver support technologies, delivering class-leading active safety performance, targeting a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating.
The Mazda CX-60 is equipped with several new active safety systems: See-Through View, a state-of-the-art 360º vision monitor that improves visibility when driving at low speeds; Turn Accross Traffic Assist; SBS-R pedestrian detection (intelligent city braking with reverse gear); Emergency Lane Keeping (lane keeping assistant); i-Adaptive Cruise Control/i-ACC (intelligent adaptive cruise control); and BSM Vehicle Exit Warning (monitoring and warning of a vehicle exit from the blind spot).
With the launch of the CX-60 PHEV, Mazda takes an important step towards its ambition to become fully carbon neutral by 2050. Over the next few years Mazda will continue to develop electrification through a wide range of new products. . The Mazda MX-30 REV, for example, will combine a 100% electric motor with a generator, powered by a rotary engine, allowing unlimited autonomy. In 2023, Mazda will launch a new model, larger than the CX-60, with three rows of seats. Altogether, over the next three years, Mazda will introduce five new electrified products that mirror its multi-solution platform architecture. After 2025, it will debut its new Skyactiv EV Scalable Architecture, a unique technology that will enable Mazda to efficiently build electric cars of all sizes using a common platform.
