Scooter X-ADV 2022: more technological and updated
Since its inception, X-ADV has represented a genuine innovation. Creating concepts is in Honda's DNA, and it is on this foundation that the company was built, becoming the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer.
In creating the X-ADV, the designers mixed different attributes. Those of adventure motorcycles, capable of riding on all kinds of paths, whose upright riding position favors visibility and control of the handlebars, with the practical character of scooters, agile and full of functionality, as well as the storage space under the seat.Robust and elegant at the same time, the X-ADV can be completely at home in the city or on unpaved roads. On the ordinary home-work-home path, on weekend getaways into nature or on adventures with no destination or end date. In any condition, the Honda X-ADV delivers competence, combining the power of the engine with an unprecedented cycling capacity in the scooter segment.
The X-ADV excites for its originality, but also for its ability to guarantee the performance, safety and reliability typical of Honda, with advanced technology, innovative style and attributes of versatility without rivals. For 2022 Honda has further refined the model, increasing engine performance, improving style and functionality and reducing weight.
Model overview...The main changes to the X-ADV are the increase in maximum power, from 54.8 hp at 6,250 rpm to 58.6 hp at 6,750 rpm, a result obtained through a new valve control and greater efficiency in the intake and exhaust. . The maximum rpm was also raised to 500 rpm. 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears have been shortened for stronger acceleration. The 4th, 5th and 6th gears are longer, which allows higher speed with lower engine speed, which helps in fuel economy.
Through the electronic throttle system TBW - Throttle By Wire, it was possible to equip the X-ADV 2022 with four riding modes that allow changing the character of the engine. They are RAIN, STANDARD, GRAVEL and SPORT, in addition to the customizable USER mode. The TBW also provides a more precise action of the HSTC system - Honda Selectable Torque Control, now with three levels of intervention, being possible to turn it off. The dual-clutch DCT transmission offers automatic gear changes integrated into the riding modes.
The new chassis and other redesigned details made it possible to reduce the total weight by 1 kg. In terms of aesthetics, the X-ADV is sharper and more aggressive thanks to the dual LED headlights equipped with DLR - Daytime Running Lights, daytime running lights, similar to those used by the CRF 1100L Africa Twin.
To facilitate the support of the feet on the ground, the bench has a new conformation. The compartment space under the seat is bigger, reaching 22 liters of capacity, which makes it possible to house a full-face helmet. In addition, the compartment has a USB port. The parking brake control is now on the right side of the handlebars, which has allowed for a glove box to be created at the rear of the front shield. The new 5.0-inch TFT panel allows Bluetooth connection and activation of voice commands through Honda RoadSync, integrated into the HSVCS - Honda Smartphone Voice Control System.
Style & Equipment...The exclusive and elegant style of the X-ADV, originally conceived and developed by the Honda Italia R&D team, was refined in the 2022 model, which brings more agile and tapered shapes. The silhouette is decidedly vertical, and every part of the fairing has been redesigned to keep the style strong and impactful. Compared to the previous version, the 2022 model is more aggressive and better in every way, even more X-ADV.
The front optical group has been remodeled and comprises dual LED headlamps with daytime running lights (DRL), whose intensity automatically adjusts to the ambient condition and always provides a bright and highly visible light, increasing passive safety. The entire lighting system of the X-ADV 2022 is made up of LEDs.
The seat height, 820 mm, and the wide handlebar, 910 mm from the ground, guarantee a riding position with a high point of view. The shape of the bench, now narrower at the front, makes it easier for your feet to reach the ground. Whether in urban or road use, the X-ADV's new windshield offers better protection, allowing for a stroke of 139 mm in its five manually adjustable elevation levels, and 11º to vary the inclination.
The Honda RoadSync connectivity system with HSVCS technology - Honda Smartphone Voice Control, is built into the X-ADV. The functions can be viewed through the 5.0-inch TFT panel, allowing the driver to control their smartphone through vocal commands, requiring the use of a helmet equipped with an audio system and microphone. System management can also be done from the buttons on the left handlebar grip.
Rugged plastic handguards deflect wind and rain, as well as prevent damage to grips and levers when driving off-road. The engine also features a 2.5mm thick reinforced aluminum crankcase guard.
The volume of the compartment under the seat now has a capacity of 22 liters, which allows for a full-face helmet, has LED lighting and a USB port that replaced the 12 V socket. The parking brake is now on the right handlebar grip, positioning which gave way to a useful and easily accessible glove compartment on the back of the front shield. The center stand is standard equipment.
The X-ADV is equipped with the Smart Key system, whose sensor can be carried by the driver in their pocket, eliminating the need for a conventional ignition key, including accessing the fuel filler and opening the seat. To turn on the X-ADV, it is enough to carry the sensor in a pocket and turn the selector positioned in front of the driver, an action that releases the handlebar lock and activates the ignition. A key is also unlocked by turning the main selector, giving access to the filler opening and under-seat compartment. The Smart Key also has a button that aims to facilitate identification from a distance, turning the blinkers on and off when pressed. The ignition/lock selector has a mechanism that makes it turn false in the absence of the Smart Key, preventing the handlebars from being unlocked by force.
The X-ADV's rear turn signals have an Emergency Stop Signal (ESS) function. If a deceleration of 6.0 m/s2 at a minimum speed of 53 km/h is detected, with either brake applied, the ESS lights flash to warn other drivers that the X-ADV is in emergency braking. At the same speed, if ABS kicks in, the deceleration for activating the ESS drops to 2.5 m/s2.
For greater comfort, the turn signals have automatic cancellation, and instead of a simple timer, the cancellation is done by comparing the speed differences between the front wheel and the rear wheel. This calculation determines the moment at which the flasher stops working.
Engine...The X-ADV's parallel twin engine is liquid cooled and has an 8-valve SOHC cylinder head. Good performance from the lowest rpm is characteristic of long stroke engines, which favors high torque. The tilt of the cylinder bank at the front brings the center of gravity closer to the ground, favoring stability. In-depth refinement work resulted in a 1.4 kg reduction in total engine weight.
Two balance shafts effectively cancel out vibrations without compromising the pleasant pulsations derived from the 270º phase crankshaft. Bore and stroke are 77 x 80 mm and in this engine, whenever possible, components play more than one role. An example is the valve train which also drives the water pump, while one of the balance shafts drives the oil pump.
The TBW system manages the engine's power, offering the driver the possibility to choose between four riding modes plus a customizable one, which adapts the engine's characteristics to different needs and situations. The 2022 X-ADV's greater power and torque combine with the shorter first three gears, which results in aggressive acceleration. The last three gears, which are longer, reduce consumption due to the reduction of revolutions to maintain cruising speeds.
Electronic engine systems...The introduction of the TBW - Throttle By Wire electronic throttle system on the X-ADV makes the management of the engine's performance and character accessible to the driver, who can select four riding modes that cover all conditions of use. . To select modes the rider must use a button on the left handlebar grip.
STANDARD mode is an intermediate point between engine power, engine braking effect and HSTC system intervention level, and ABS level.
The SPORT mode offers more aggressive power delivery and engine braking, with low intervention from the HSTC system and ABS at an on-road level of performance.
In RAIN mode, the engine power is reduced as well as the engine braking effect. The HSTC system has high intervention and ABS at an on-road level of performance.
GRAVEL mode uses higher engine power and reduced engine braking effect, with low HSTC system intervention, ABS actuation goes to the off-road level in this configuration.
The USER mode allows you to customize all parameters: power (P), engine brake (EB), traction control (T), ABS and DCT actuation.
The HSTC traction control system - Honda Selectable Torque Control, now offers an improved level of control, which allows to manage the torque at the rear wheel with greater precision and offers the driver three levels of actuation:
Level 1 results in minimal intervention, which allows for slight losses of rear tire grip. Level 2 is the intermediate, which provides adequate traction control for general-purpose conditions. Level 3 determines the maximum actuation of the traction control, ideal for wet or slippery surfaces. The possibility of turning off traction control only occurs by selecting the USER mode.
Dual Clutch Transmission - DCT...Honda's DCT technology has equipped different models for more than a decade, having surpassed the figure of more than 200,000 units produced worldwide since then. The transmission offers fluid and fast gear changes, and is a technology that conquers motorcyclists in the first few minutes of use.
The DCT transmission uses two clutches: one for 1st, 3rd and 5th gears; another for 2nd, 4th and 6th gears. Each group of gears, even and odd, has its pilot axle, whose assembly is concentric, which makes the DCT a compact unit like a conventional transmission. Reliability and precision of the couplings are ensured by the precise electronic management and by the fact that each clutch has its own electro-hydraulic circuit.
Gear changes result in a progression in which the typical longitudinal load transfer does not occur when shifting gears as in conventional transmissions, whether during acceleration or deceleration. This advantage is confirmed by the riding comfort - the passenger doesn't even notice when the gear changes happen - and in the efficiency of the performance.
In addition to these, there are other advantages intrinsic to the DCT transmission, such as durability (inaccurate gear changes that can damage gears), false neutrals or involuntary engine shutdowns due to an error in gear shifting, insufficient acceleration or incorrect operation of the shift lever. clutch. In addition, with the DCT transmission, stress and fatigue in riding, especially in urban use, are reduced to a minimum.
Cycling... The X-ADV 2022 received a new tubular chassis in Diamond steel, a careful reformulation that, through tubes of variable thickness and weight, saved 1 kg in total weight compared to the previous chassis, in addition to freeing up more useful space for the compartment under the seat.
The angle of the steering column - caster - is 27° while the trail is 104 mm, with a wheelbase of 1,590 mm. The steering angle is 39°, and it provides a turning radius of 2.8 m, which makes the X-ADV particularly agile when maneuvering in traffic. Suspensions with 153.5 mm of travel at the front and 150 mm of travel at the rear are complemented by a minimum ground clearance of 165 mm. Dry weight is 227 kg, 1 kg lighter than the previous X-ADV.
The inverted cartridge-type front suspension has 41 mm diameter tubes and allows adjustment of spring preload and extension damping. The rear suspension has a monoshock adjustable in the spring preload, linked to the Pro-Link system and aluminum balance with asymmetrical arms.
The wheels have aluminum rims with stainless steel tangential spokes. It has 17 inches at the front and 15 inches at the rear, contributing to the X-ADV's excellent ability to absorb irregularities in the terrain very competently. The on/off tires allow good performance on compact roads as well as on unpaved roads, and the L-shaped tire valves make it easy to check the inflation pressure. Tires are 120/70 R17 and 160/60 R15, front and rear, respectively.
As for the brakes, the two-way ABS system has four-piston radial calipers at the front that bite into 296 mm diameter discs, while the disc measure at the rear is 240 mm, on which a single-piston caliper acts.Price, colors, warranty...The 2022 Honda X-ADV has a three-year, unlimited mileage warranty, in addition to Honda Assistance, 24-hour assistance during the warranty period. Pre-sales will start on March 24th and the estimated arrival date to dealerships throughout Brazil will be in April, with the suggested price (Federal District base) of 81,800 reais (local currency).
Available colors are red and pearl gray.
