VELOQX
The super sports car with Ferrari F12 DNA
Creations based on production cars, where almost everything is changed except the chassis, are relatively common. And we say relatively, because they are exorbitantly expensive, especially if, as in this case, they are based on a Ferrari F12. Sometimes it's hard to understand why someone wants to modify a car like the F12, one of Ferrari's most spectacular front V12 models, but the result will not leave anyone indifferent. It's called Veloqx Fangio, it was presented at the Yas Marina circuit and its design is quite radical and unorthodox, especially at the rear, where no one would say it's a Ferrari F12 Berlinetta, but a prototype or a very memorable. However, it is a one-off, a unique car created at the request of its owner, Sam Li, which will have a street version and a competition version, and is also born under possible controversy.
Sam Li is one of the seven children of construction entrepreneur Sammy Tak Lee, of Chinese origin, and is also one of the richest men in Hong Kong as he is the heir to a fortune estimated at 3.6 billion dollars. And like many other millionaires, he's also a car collector, whose collection includes gems like an Aston Martin One-77, a Bugatti Veyron, a Ferrari FXX and even a Rolls-Royce Sweptail. The only thing missing was a car created specifically for him.
The fact is that Sam Li did not resort to any bodybuilder for his creation, he used Veloqx Team, his racing team, which has extensive experience in endurance racing and Le Mans. It is the first time that they have dared to build a car for the road, but there is nothing that money, in these matters, cannot do. In addition, they intend to manufacture 12 copies.
One of the most interesting things about the Veloqx Fangio is that it is based, specifically, on the Ferrari F12tdf, a super special version of the Italian V12, of which 799 copies were made. Li wants to sacrifice 12 of those cars to create the 12 units of the Fangio, something that won't be a problem because the Chinese bought a total of 20 copies of the Ferrari F12tdf when the Maranello sports car went on sale.
Of each F12tdf, only the complete chassis remains, that is, suspensions, engine and transmission, brakes and steering. The rest just goes to waste. The engine, the naturally aspirated 6.3-liter V12 with 780 hp and 709 Nm of torque, remains intact.
However, although the car is a visual spectacle, it could arrive with a bit of controversy. According to the folks at Motor1 Argentina, Sam Li would be using the name of the famous Argentine driver, Juan Manuel Fangio, without the permission of his heirs, who owns control of the Fangio brand. They were able to speak with Rubén Fangio, one of the pilot's legitimate sons, and he confirmed that no one spoke to them in order to use the mythical pilot's name.
