TESLA

The 2008 Tesla Roadster worth $250,000

The timing of the second-generation Tesla Roadster electric car on the market is constantly being delayed, although those who want to get it first are already willing to prepay the manufacturer $250,000. The irony of fate is that collectors have to buy the first generation car for comparable money.

It is recalled that the Tesla Roadster is the brand's first mass-produced electric car, produced in the period from 2008 to 2012. During all this time, about 2,400 cars were produced, but for objective reasons, not all of them have survived to this day. Several dozen were destroyed in fires and accidents, Tesla itself bought well-preserved copies on the secondary market to use their parts to repair other customer cars. Finally, a Tesla Roadster with a mannequin in a spacesuit was launched by Elon Musk into outer space.

In a word, time inevitably reduces the fleet of Tesla Roadsters in use, but at the same time, the company's success in the electric car market increases the value of the brand's first production model. It was based on the Lotus Elise chassis, offered a range of up to 393 km and an acceleration time to 100 km/h of about 3.7 seconds, a top speed of 201 km/h. Until recently, as Electrek explains, a car of this generation under normal conditions could be bought for $70,000, but recently prices have gone up. Prices hit $100,000 last year, and this year, a 2008 840-mile serial number VIN013 found a buyer at a price “significantly above $250,000.” The seller's exact amount to call to decline.

It turns out that the old Tesla Roadster turned out to be more expensive than the new conditional car, which will go on sale no earlier than 2023. At the same time, the formal debut of the second-generation model took place in 2017, only the start of production was constantly delayed. That didn't stop the company from fully distributing the quota of 1,000 copies for a total of $250 million. Basic equipment for an electric car costs $200,000.
