ABSOLUTE RARITY: 1987 PORSCHE 959 KOMFORT SOLD FOR THE BARGAIN OF 1.6 MILLION DOLLARS

The Porsche 959 is one of the most iconic models of the German brand. It marked a before and an after when Porsche officially launched it on the market in 1987. It was a technological showcase, an engineering marvel that helped the brand show all its muscle and potential. Only 292 copies were manufactured and one of them was auctioned. A 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort with only 14,000 kilometers on it.

Although there were two different versions of the 959 (Sport and Komfort), most of the 292 examples were configured as Komfort. This version offered a number of cabin amenities, such as leather upholstery and air conditioning. In addition, it preserved the chassis, the advanced suspension, the complete four-wheel drive system that gave Porsche engineers so much headache and the powerful boxer biturbo engine.

This leads us to discover this Porsche 959 with a Guard Red exterior finish that was offered as part of the Tenenbaum Collection. Equipped with thermal sports seats, this 1987 model retains its original engine and has been part of several collections in the last decade as an exclusive luxury item.

Purchased by one of its owners in 2012, the super sports car underwent a complete overhaul that included disassembling the engine, brakes, fuel system, differentials and steering rack. Since then, exhaustive maintenance has been carried out every year, including repairing and replacing those components that have deteriorated over time. And we say about time, because this 1987 Porsche 959 Komfort has accumulated approximately 14,000 kilometers since then.

It's finished in an elegant red-tone paint job on original 17-inch wheels. The interior is black perforated leather and shows almost no visible signs of wear. Under the rear hood is a 2.85-liter, 6-cylinder, biturbo boxer engine. It develops 450 hp of power and 500 Nm of torque, managed by a 6-speed manual transmission and an all-wheel drive system.

This 959 has been part of the same collection since 2017 and was auctioned on January 27 at an event organized by RM Sotheby’s in Phoenix, Arizona. Its selling price: 1,600,000 dollars.
