MR2 resurfaced, electrified
The event organized by Toyota to present to the world the main keys to the offensive it will carry out in the field of 100% electric mobility left numerous and important points. This colossus of the Japanese auto industry wants to be a global reference in electrification at its highest level. For this, and by the year 2030, it will launch 30 new electric cars on the market.
The press conference was led by the company's top manager, Akio Toyoda, President of Toyota Motor Corporation. He was in charge of confirming the most relevant details of the script that was established. In these new electric models that will hit the market, the Lexus brand and the new sub-brand bZ (beyond Zero) will play leading roles.
Throughout the event, several electric vehicles were shown. Akio Toyoda himself pointed out that the vast majority of them will end up reaching the market sooner or later. That's why a lot of anticipation was generated in each of the concept cars that were presented to the public. One of them is called the Toyota Sports EV. A conceptual model to which we must pay close attention.
Toyota has not given concrete details about plans it has for the Sports EV Concept. However, and taking the latest reports as a reference, a very real possibility quickly emerged. It's just that we can be at the forefront of a 100% electric sporting future. A spiritual successor to the Toyota MR2.
In the recent past, there has been speculation with the return of the MR2 transformed into an electric vehicle. And while it's not official, it's one of the options we should consider and put on the table. One of the keys to the Sports EV is that it displays the Toyota Gazoo Racing insignia, which shows that the sports division was involved in the design process.
Another of the characteristics of the conceptual model presented by Toyota, in addition to its exterior appearance, is its interior configuration. It is a two-seat model. And in addition to flashy seats, it features a futuristic steering wheel.
After the launch of a new generation Toyota Supra, it is speculated that we will get to see a new generation of both the Toyota Celica and the mentioned MR2. Now, if they come back to life, they will bet one way or another on electrification.
