Company launches electric SUV with sports car soul
The American company Mullen Technologies presented at the 2021 Los Angeles Motor Show a very attractive and sporty electric crossover, with a performance that will rival the Tesla Model S Plaid. The car is expected to go into production in the fourth quarter of 2023 and deliveries will begin the following year, in 2024.
But there will also be a version called the Five RS much more powerful, which will reduce the acceleration time to just 1.9 seconds, a time comparable to a Tesla Model S Plaid, its biggest rival at the moment it goes on sale. Five is expected to start at $55,000 in its basic version, without discounting promotions, and can now be booked by leaving a $100 deposit.
This amount is refundable, so if you change your mind in the three years of waiting before receiving the vehicle, whose production is surrounded by question marks, especially since Mullen doesn't have much experience and hasn't shared any details about its production. What we do know is that the manufacturer guarantees that the vehicle will be manufactured in the United States, at Mullen's Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Center (AMEC) in Tunica, Mississippi, and regarding these facilities, the company highlights:
"We are currently working on creating the necessary infrastructure and machinery required to support the large-scale production of electric vehicles, which will begin in the third quarter of 2024."
Anyone who wants more information about the car, which was present as a very real pre-series model at the Los Angeles Motor Show, can enjoy the video of the vehicle's official presentation. Don't expect a presentation like that of any other established manufacturer, because that's not the case, but overall, the question remains whether Mullen's efforts will be enough to convey credibility in its product and its ability to manufacture it.
