SUBARU LEVORG STI SPORT R: PERUA JAPONESA AGORA UM POUCO MAIS RADICAL

LEVORG STI SPORT R: the Japanese van arrives with a different look

Subaru has just unveiled the new Levorg STI Sport R in its specifications for the Japanese local market. It is based on the current generation of Levorg, which was introduced as a 2022 model, and claims to be the top finish without becoming an STI at all. However, it equips the WRX engine, a distinctly sportier styling and expanded standard equipment.

The new Levorg is based on Subaru's global platform and is offered in a range of different trim levels. Since the company is reluctant to release an STI version of each and every one of its models, it tries to satisfy the demands of its loyal buyers with versions that include these initials, although in reality they are not an authentic STI.

Despite this, the new Subaru Levorg STI Sport R has a very sporty character. For starters, it shares the same engine that powers the Subaru WRX 2022, namely a supercharged 2.4 liter 4-cylinder boxer. It develops 275 hp of power and a maximum torque of 375 Nm, managed by a CVT transmission with an 8-speed virtual manual mode. Like a good Subaru worth its salt, it has a four-wheel drive system.

The sportier Levorg is also equipped with a set of electronically controlled shock absorbers and a program with five driving modes: Comfort, Normal, Sport, Sport and Individual. There is also a more decaffeinated version that loses the final R of its denomination. That means it's less extreme, with a 1.8-litre turbo boxer engine with 177 hp and 300 Nm of torque. It shares the CVT Lineartronic transmission and permanent all-wheel drive system with its bigger brother.

In terms of design, the Subaru Levorg STI Sport R has a distinctive style. It includes the STI insignia on the grille and rear cover, as well as a sportier front splitter and an aluminum plate. The wheels are 18-inch alloy and the exhausts are slightly larger. The body is available in eight colors, including the new Ceramic White, Sapphire Blue Pearl and Ignition Red.

Inside, Subaru offers details like leather upholstery and a touchscreen for the 11.6-inch infotainment system. They also complement a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel along with a leather-covered steering wheel with the STI insignia. Optionally offers a sliding roof, an electric trunk lid and the latest security systems within the EyeSight package.

Prices for the Levorg STI Sport R in Japan start at 4,389,000 yen
