Volkswagen AG and ''its satellite brands'' continue to impress in the sale of trams
From July to September, the VW Group brands placed 122 thousand 100% electric vehicles on the market, an increase of 109% over the same period of the previous year, in which they did not exceed 59 thousand units. With the majority of models being traded in Europe, the German giant has also sold locally manufactured vehicles to Chinese customers through joint ventures it maintains with local builders as well as American customers.
The brands with the highest sales volume were VW and Audi, the first with the ID.3 and ID.4, in addition to the small e-up! which is still traded in some markets, starting with the German one. Audi contributed with the numbers for the e-tron and e-tron Sportback, conceived on platforms that were born for models with combustion engines, to which it is necessary to add the sales of the sporty e-tron GT and the Q4 e-tron and Q4 e-tron Sportback. To these two brands it is necessary to add Skoda, Porsche and Seat, which will soon be joined by Cupra.
If we consider the first nine months of 2021, the increase in sales of electric vehicles by the German group is even more representative, having increased by 138%. In 2020, from January to September, the group's brands placed on the market 123,000 vehicles powered exclusively by battery, a figure that shot up to 293,000 units in the same period this year. This suggests that, by December, it will not be impossible for the group to surpass 400,000 electric vehicles sold and continue to grow at a higher rate, as more models and versions of the Volkswagen AG brands appear on the market.
The best-selling model in the first nine months of the year was the VW ID.4, with 72,700 units, followed by the ID.3 (52,700), Audi e-tron (36,100), Porsche Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo (28,600) and Skoda Enyaq (28,200). All brands increased their sales from January to September, compared to the same period of the previous year and, among them, Skoda was the one that grew the most (236.8%), followed by VW (169.2%), Porsche (161 .7%), VW Commercial Vehicles (157.5%), Seat (109.6%) and Audi (51.4%).
