Verstappen leads the championship with victory in USA

Max Verstappen extended his lead in the Formula 1 championship after winning the United States Grand Prix, the 17th stage of the 2021 season. With 25 points conquered this Sunday (24) at the Circuit of the Americas, in Austin, the Red Bull driver achieved 287.5 points, and now has a 12-point lead over Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton, who managed to get close but had no chance of attacking Verstappen, had 19 points, as he made the fastest lap of the race, and now has 275.5 points. Valtteri Bottas, only sixth on Sunday, is third with 185 points, completing the list of the top three in the championship.

Third-placed in Austin, Sergio Pérez advanced to fourth in the championship, taking 150 points, just one more than now fifth-placed Lando Norris. Charles Leclerc reached 128 points and overtook Carlos Sainz, relegating his teammate to seventh place with 122.5 points.

Daniel Ricciardo appears in eighth place in the championship with 105 points, and is followed by Pierre Gasly, who even after zeroing and following with 74 points, remains in ninth position. The top ten group in the Formula 1 World Championship is completed by Fernando Alonso, who is still on 58 points after he retired in Austin.

The Formula 1 World Championship will continue on November 7, with the Mexico City Grand Prix, which will be held at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez.
